Rules for Outdoor Burning in Hays County (when allowed). Burn Ban Hotline Number: 512-393-7300: option 2
The need for a burn ban is reviewed weekly at Commissioners Court meetings and can be enacted at any time by the County Judge on an emergency basis. The Hays County Fire Marshal, in conjunction with local fire department chiefs, makes recommendations as to whether a ban is needed.
Under a burn ban, all outdoor burning is banned in unincorporated areas, including the use of burn barrels with lids. Food grills can be used, but care should be taken to ensure that there is a water source nearby and that a fire is completely out before being unattended.
